Free Base64 encoder
Paste text to encode it, or paste Base64 to decode it. Encoding uses UTF-8. The text stays in your browser. Base64 is not a secret.

The two lines update as you type. They are not sent anywhere.
How the encoding works
- Encoded turns the text into UTF-8 bytes, then writes those bytes with the standard Base64 alphabet: A–Z, a–z, 0–9,
+,/, and=padding. - Decoded ignores spaces and line breaks, adds any missing
=padding, and reads the result as UTF-8 text. A string whose length cannot be Base64 is rejected. - URL-safe Base64, which uses
-and_instead of+and/, is a different alphabet. This page does not convert that alphabet. - Bytes that are not UTF-8 text are rejected. This page does not pretend a file or a random byte string is readable text.
Base64 is not encryption. Anyone can decode it. There is no password. For characters that must be safe inside a URL, use the URL encoder. Percent-encoding and Base64 are different.
Questions about this encoder
What is Base64?
A way to write bytes using A to Z, a to z, 0 to 9, plus, slash, and equals-sign padding. This page turns your text into UTF-8 bytes first, then writes those bytes as Base64.
Does Base64 encrypt the text?
No. Anyone with the encoded text can decode it. There is no password. Do not use Base64 to hide a secret.
How are accents and emoji encoded?
As UTF-8. The word café is not stored as one Latin-1 byte for é. Decoding expects UTF-8 as well. Bytes that are not UTF-8 text are rejected instead of being shown as a garbled string.
Does this tool upload what I paste?
No. The text stays in the browser. Blogoose does not receive it.
