Free Password Generator: Random Passwords in the Browser

Free tool · nothing is uploaded

Free password generator

Choose a length and the kinds of characters. This page builds one password in your browser and forgets it when you generate another or leave. It is not sent to Blogoose.

A password length of 16 with letters, numbers, and symbols, and no sample password.
The picture shows the settings. The password itself is only in the box below.

Password

A new password is created in this browser. It is not sent anywhere.

How a password is built

  1. Random numbers come from the browser’s cryptographic generator. Each character is chosen uniformly. The picker discards random values that would bias a character set whose size does not divide the random range.
  2. Lowercase is abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz. Uppercase is ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ. Digits are 0123456789.
  3. Symbols are !@#$%^&*()-_=+[]{}:,.?. There is no space, quote, or backslash in that set.
  4. If you avoid look-alike characters, the generator drops 0, O, o, 1, l, and I. Symbols stay as they are.
  5. The length must be at least the number of sets you turned on, and from 8 to 64. One character from each selected set is included, then the rest are drawn from the combined set, then the whole password is shuffled.

The bit estimate on the page treats every character as a uniform draw from the combined set. Requiring one character from each set makes the real number a little lower. A site that rejects symbols has a smaller set than the one shown here. This page does not know a site’s rules, and it does not check a breach list. Put the password in a password manager.

Questions about this generator

How does this password generator pick characters?

From the browser cryptographic random source. Each character is chosen uniformly from the sets you turned on. If the length allows it, the password includes at least one character from each set. The characters are then shuffled.

Is the password uploaded?

No. It is created in the browser and stays there until you copy it or leave the page. Blogoose does not receive it. Generating again replaces it. The old one is not stored here.

How long should the password be?

This page allows 8 to 64 characters. The default is 16, with lowercase, uppercase, digits, and symbols. A site may reject symbols or require a shorter password. Those rules are the site’s, not this page’s.

Does this check leaked passwords?

No. It does not send the password to a breach list. A random password from a large set is unlikely to be a published common password. Store it in a password manager rather than in a note or a chat.
