How the tip is calculated

  1. The tip is the bill times the percent, divided by 100. 15% of 100 is 15.
  2. The total is the bill plus the tip. 100 plus 15 is 115.
  3. Each person pays the total divided by the number of people. A bill of 100 with a 20% tip is 120, so four people pay 30 each.
  4. The percent can be 0 to 100. People can be 1 to 100. The bill cannot be negative.
  5. Amounts are shown to 2 decimal places. A comma is a thousands separator, so 1,000 is 1000.

Tax is not added. If the tip should be on a taxed bill, put the tax into the bill first. The currency is whatever currency the bill uses. This page does not choose a tip for you.
